Lifetime Extension of URF

On April 7 1978 the Royal Swedish Navy officially launched the submarine rescue vehicle, Ubåtsräddningsfarkosten, URF.

URF, a 55 tonne submarine rescue vessel uniquely able to rescue an entire submarine crew in a single dive, has since performed more than 550 dives, been mobilised by air once and has performed more than 210 submarine mates.

In 2011, JFD was awarded the £11m contract for the complete refit of URF.

The project builds upon JFD’s long standing relationship with the Royal Swedish Navy, expertise in the refit of manned pressure vessels, and experience operating submarine rescue vehicles over the past 30 years.

The project provides URF and the Royal Swedish Navy with a further 12 years of supportable submarine rescue capability.
