Today, JFD employs over 125 staff; each of them suitably qualified, uniquely skilled and highly experienced in the sub-sea environment. From five bases around the world, JFD supports, operates and maintains a diverse selection of sub-sea assets for a variety of international customers.

Central control

Our local operations teams in Australia, Singapore, Sweden and the UK are backed-up by a central Engineering Support Cell which exists to provide rapid technical support, advice and expertise whatever the time of day.

Assurance Management Rigour

JFD’s support organisation is reinforced through comprehensive processes, procedures and management controls overseen by our Assurance Department. JFD’s Engineering Management System ensures items such as Safety Management, Risk & Hazard Management, Configuration Control and Technical Assurance are part of our everyday culture.

Dedicated Team

The Engineering Support Cell is a highly capable team of Subject Matter Experts who provide end users with 24/7 on-demand in-service support. Agility and flexibility, combined with sound engineering assurance and operational experience, enables JFD to provide fully comprehensive technical support services as required to maintain the availability of high integrity sub-sea equipment.

SQEP Resource

The Engineering Support Cell comprises entirely of dedicated internal resource, drawn from a variety of disciplines including: experienced Project Managers, graduate Design Engineers and Naval Architects, qualified ROV/SRV Pilots and Operators, and specialist electrical, mechanical and hydraulic Technicians. For each, the sub-sea environment is their speciality.

Technical Authority

The Engineering Support Cell is the Technical Authority for all in-service equipment operated by JFD. The central team is relied upon for:

  • Concession Management
  • Obsolescence Management
  • Procedural Review
  • Defect and Modification Control
  • Change Management
  • Specification Control

On Demand Customer Support

The Engineering Support Cell ensures that a round-the-clock response is maintained across the wide spectrum of service delivery contracts managed by JFD, and provides a ready supply of options in support of varying project requirements:

  • Immediate support, guidance and troubleshooting
  • Verification and validation of field decisions
  • Provision of OEM on-site and remote technical support
  • Logistic support and mobilisation of equipment
  • Operation and maintenance of sub-sea equipment
  • Management of offshore operations
  • Design, supply and integration of sub-sea equipment
  • Project management and delivery of ad-hoc projects

On demand technical and operational support for all ROVs operated by the MoD’s Salvage & Marine Operations division.


Full capability delivery, technical support, operations and maintenance for the Australian Submarine Rescue System, operating at 12 hours’ notice-to-move and 95% availability.


Full capability delivery, technical support, operations and maintenance for the Singapore Submarine Rescue System, operating at 2 hours’ notice-to-move during high-alert periods a nd 95% availability.
